Mississippi Plaintiff Files Actos Side Effects Lawsuit in Illinois
Actos heart failure is a known side effect of the diabetes drug, and the FDA required a black-box warning to that effect. However, according to plaintiff Leandrew Williams, Takeda was not so forthcoming about the risk of Actos bladder cancer. On July 20, 2012, Williams filed a lawsuit in the Circuit Court for Cook County, Illinois, alleging that he developed bladder cancer after less than a year on the diabetes medication. As do other Actos lawsuits, Williams' complaint cites multiple studies that informed manufacturer Takeda of a "statistically significant" link between Actos and bladder cancer. Williams requests damages for his injuries, pain and suffering, disability, and medical expenses.
